Sizing Your Ventilation System

The standard rule: your exhaust fan should exchange the entire air volume of your greenhouse once per minute during summer.

CFM needed = Length × Width × Average Height (all in feet)

Example: A 10×12×8-foot greenhouse needs 960 CFM of exhaust capacity. In winter, you only need 2–3 air exchanges per hour (about 30–50 CFM), so a variable-speed fan that throttles down is ideal for year-round use.

For circulation fans, plan on one HAF fan per 500–800 sq ft of floor space, mounted above crop height and angled slightly downward.
